Me and my daughter were in Selma for the Jubilee Festival and Bridge Crossing and stopped at Golden Ranch BBQ for a meal. Me and my daughter both ordered the $7.99 lunch special which was a pulled pork sandwich with fries and a drink. My daughter said the French fries were really good and she enjoyed the barbecue sandwich. We both got sweet iced tea for our drink and it's very sweet. I substituted turnip greens for the fries. I was thinking I am in Alabama, getting ready to enjoy some delicious southern cooking. I was wrong. Not about the Alabama part. I was mistaken about the delicious turnip greens part. They tasted poured out of can and warmed up. Horrible. I didn't finish it. Golden Ranch please remove turnip greens from your menu or learn how to cook a good pot of greens. The barbecue sandwich was good to me but I asked for more barbecue sauce because it was kind of dry. I'm glad we stopped in. And they have delicious Buttermilk pie and triple layer chocolate cream pie!
The best family restaurant in Selma with lots of choices, from bbq to catfish to steaks to chicken to salads. My group of six loved it. I had the catfish plate and was very impressed--crisp on the outside but moist inside. Excellent slaw. Hush puppies need work--tough and dry. Generous servings for everyone. Great value for the costs. And huge homemade cakes and pies.
Golden Ranch has killer lunch specials every day! Closed on the weekends because we are family owned and operated- and wanna spend time with our kids!
